That’s what everyone asks me.  What should I do?  What should I do in the face of all this tragedy and loss?

It’s hard to even wrap our minds around what happened last weekend in Orlando, let alone have any sense of what we can do in light of it.  Here are five ideas for how we can respond RIGHT NOW.

1

Write to your elected officials

My good friend and fellow writer, Patricia Raybon, a writer, said this: “Spent the day writing to every elected official I ever voted for, asking their show of will to tighten gun control. Small gesture, but felt the need to speak out!”

2

Donate to the Trevor Project

The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) young people ages 13-24.

Offer Your Services

The Forest Lake Seventh-Day Adventist Church is offering free funeral services for any #Pulse victims.  Here’s what they have to say:

If you or someone you know needs a place to hold a funeral service in conjunction with the #thePulseShootings, please call our church office at 407.869.0680. We will host your service (for free) and stream it live on the Internet for those who might not be able to attend in person.

What do you have to offer?  What does your community of faith have to offer?

4

Educate yourself

Learn about gun laws.  Read up on the risks of being LGBTQ in this country.  Get informed.  It matters.
