When Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates arrived home on July 23, he was probably looking forward to relaxing after a long trip, settling down perhaps for a nice meal, or a soothing cup of tea. What he most certainly did not expect was to have the Cambridge police come into his home, ask him for identification, and ultimately arrest him when he followed the officer outside who refused to give Gates his badge number.
